Heritage Baptist Academy has been established to provide an education to the youth of the Claiborne County region, which will encompass traditional, statutory, and religious curriculum. It is a non-profit organization whose funding will be solely provided for from the generosity of the area.
Heritage was chosen as a name due to the fact that it conveys what we want our children to have - a heritage. We expect that our children will be well grounded in the Bible and exemplify its teachings. The word heritage conveys pride in the place of our up bringing and home. Religious and family values are a part of our heritage, so the name has many implications; all of which are positive.
It is our opinion that we have overlooked our cultural and religious heritage far too long.
It is hoped that in using the word it will remind us over and over of what a great region we live in and what a great God we serve.
The school has been designed to provide K-4 through 4th grade initially, 5th through 8th grades will be added progressively each year. Grades K-4 and K-5 will have a ratio of 1 teacher for every 20 students and 1st through 4th grades will have a ratio of 1 teacher for every 26 student. The building has almost 30,000 sq. ft.: it is fully equipped with offices for staff support, outside play grounds, gymnasium, stage.
Teachers and staff consist of church members who profess faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God who lived on the earth as a mortal man and died for our sins. Students will be from homes whose parents agree to assist in the education of their children in concert with the school. Parent participation is required in order that the schools academic objectives may be attained.
The A Beka curriculum will be used. It is the most widely accepted and approved curriculum for Christian schools; it also meets or exceeds all Tennessee state requirements. The Bible will be integrated into every subject as much as possible, with Bible lessons on a daily basis.
The school will be dedicated to academic excellence. Traditionally, Christian schools have a history of being two grade years ahead of their contemporaries who attend public schools. It is not a guarantee that this will be a fact, but it is a record that is carried by Christian schools.
Students will be recognized for outstanding academic performance to the same degree that sports would be recognized in other schools.
We will also have sports programs, beginning with soccer and basketball, depending on coach availability. Cheerleading will also be available.
It is our intent to have intramural competition with other Christian schools.
The Heritage Baptist Academy of East Tennessee, Inc. admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities, generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
Heritage is solely provided for by the generosity of people who desire to see God’s work accomplished. The building and grounds are paid for solely by contributions of individuals, churches, and businesses. Tuition subsidies are required for normal operations; individuals, churches and businesses fund scholarships.
We, at Heritage Baptist Academy, have set ourselves to the task of teaching children that in life we must seek a proper relation with God. We will teach that Jesus Christ is central in all truth, not just in the Word of the Bible, but in the arts, music, science, math, history, geography, language, and also in the universe.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Heritage Baptist Academy is to provide a quality education without compromising spiritual integrity, to equip children spiritually, academically and physically for today and eternity.
OUR PURPOSE
HBA is committed to offering a distinctively Christian and academic education beginning with Kindergarten (starting at age four) and continuing through the 5th grade. It is the responsibility of the staff members to diligently seek to instill the time honored values of not only faith in God, but also love of family, patriotism, respect for authority, and hard work. The Academy seeks to work with parents in helping to fulfill the God given mandate of training up children in the way they should go and bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (Proverbs 22:6: Ephesians 6:4)
STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY & OBJECTIVES
HBA believes the Bible to be the divinely inspired Word of God, inerrant in its original manuscripts. We accept the traditional principles of Christianity outlined in the Bible as the standard for daily living. As Christ is the cornerstone of the church, we believe that He is also the cornerstone of the educational process.
For the spiritual and moral growth of the students, HBA seeks:
Ø To teach the essential doctrines of the Christian Faith.
Ø To lead the pupils into a personal, saving relationship with
Christ as Lord and Savior.
Ø To develop a desire to know and to do the will of God.
Ø To develop a Biblical sense of right and wrong.
Ø To foster self-discipline in the student, based on respect for
and reverence toward God and all authority.
Ø To help pupils develop a consistent Christian philosophy of
life by integrating all subjects with the Bible.
Academically, HBA endeavors:
Ø To promote high academic standards.
Ø To help each pupil gain a comprehensive command of the
fundamental processes used in communicating with others
(i.e. speaking, listening, writing and reading).
Ø To foster an appreciation of our Christian and American
Heritage, of human dignity, which leads to good citizenship.
Ø To impart knowledge of the world and current events relative
to God’s plan for men.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
HBA believes in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, was crucified for our sins, died, and was buried, and rose again on the third day from the dead; that He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father; from thence, He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church as the Body of Christ, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. We believe God has ordained the basic institution of society to be the marriage of one man and one woman.
